At Sswings Preschool, our Upper Kindergarten (UKG) programme is thoughtfully designed to prepare children for a seamless transition into primary school while nurturing the joy of learning. Rooted in our philosophy of “Indian Roots • Global Wings,” we believe every child learns best through meaningful experiences, inquiry, exploration, and reflection. Rather than focusing solely on academics, we cultivate confident, independent learners who ask questions, solve problems, think creatively, communicate effectively, and care deeply about the world around them.
UKG is a significant milestone where children consolidate their foundational knowledge while developing higher-order thinking skills. Our curriculum integrates language, mathematics, science, arts, social understanding, life skills, and physical development into engaging, inquiry-driven experiences that make learning purposeful and enjoyable.
Building Strong Readers and Effective Communicators At Sswings, reading is at the heart of learning. We believe that confident readers become confident learners. Through our structured literacy programme, children develop fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, phonics mastery, and expressive language. Daily reading sessions expose children to fiction, non-fiction, poetry, informational texts, and thematic storybooks that broaden their imagination and understanding of the world.
Our inviting Story Nest encourages independent reading, storytelling, role play, book discussions, and creative thinking, making reading an exciting daily habit rather than a classroom task.
Creative Writing and Language Development Children gradually transition from writing simple sentences to expressing complete ideas confidently. Through storytelling, picture prompts, journal writing, creative thinking activities, and collaborative discussions, children strengthen their writing abilities while learning correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
Advanced Numeracy Through Real-Life Experiences Mathematics at Sswings goes beyond worksheets. Children discover mathematical concepts through exploration, hands-on activities, games, investigations, and everyday experiences. They learn to reason, analyse patterns, solve problems, and apply mathematical thinking confidently.
Our numeracy experiences encourage children to think independently rather than memorise procedures.
Science Exploration & Discovery Lab Young children are natural scientists, and our Science Discovery Lab transforms curiosity into meaningful learning. Every investigation begins with a question, encouraging children to observe, predict, experiment, record findings, and draw conclusions.
These investigations foster observation skills, logical thinking, scientific vocabulary, and confidence in asking “Why?” and “How?” Loose Parts Learning Lab
One of the unique strengths of Sswings is our Loose Parts Learning Lab, where everyday materials become tools for imagination, innovation, and engineering. Children use open-ended resources such as wooden blocks, natural materials, bottle caps, shells, stones, fabric pieces, cardboard tubes, recycled materials, nuts, bolts, pebbles, and connectors to create, design, construct, and solve challenges.
There is no single “right answer,” allowing every child to become a confident creator and problem solver. Inquiry-Based Learning
Our inquiry-based curriculum encourages children to become active participants in their own learning. Instead of simply receiving information, children investigate meaningful questions connected to real life.
This approach nurtures curiosity, independence, and deeper conceptual understanding.
Creative Arts & Expression Creativity is woven throughout our curriculum. Through painting, sculpture, music, dance, drama, process art, and collaborative projects, children learn to express themselves confidently while appreciating different perspectives and cultures. Art is viewed as a process of exploration rather than simply creating a finished product. Children experiment with various materials, textures, colours, and techniques, encouraging imagination and originality.
Leadership & Life Skills We believe leadership begins with responsibility and empathy. Throughout the year, children are given meaningful opportunities to become classroom helpers, discussion leaders, event hosts, peer supporters, and problem solvers.
Daily routines encourage children to organise their belongings, make thoughtful choices, complete tasks independently, and contribute positively to the classroom community.
Public Speaking & Confidence Building Confident communication is a key focus in UKG. Through assemblies, storytelling, presentations, role plays, debates, circle time discussions, and celebration events, children gradually overcome hesitation and develop a confident voice.
Our comprehensive School Readiness Programme ensures children are academically, socially, emotionally, and physically prepared for Grade 1.
